Greatest American Hero

Believe it or Not by Mike Post & Stephen Geyer

Original Air Dates: 1981 - 1983 (ABC)   Location: Los Angeles, California

The song was a Billboard #2 hit in 1981. It was the only Top 40 hit by Scarbury who was a session singer for producer Mike Post.

Look at what’s happened to me,
I can’t believe it myself.
Suddenly I’m up on top of the world,
It should’ve been somebody else.

Believe it or not, I’m walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it’s just me.

It’s like a light of a new day,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true.

Believe it or not, I’m walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be? Believe it or not it’s just me.

These lyrics were almost never heard - the pilot show featured an instrumental version of the song (which was typical of Mike Post's songs). For some reason, which I haven't been able to discern, the next week and for the run of the show it used the version with the lyrics.

This show marked Robert Culp's (of I-Spy) return to a regular TV series.
