Danger Man / Secret Agent Man

Secret Agent Man by P.F. Sloan & Steve Barri, performed by Johnny Rivers

Original Air Dates: 1961, 1965 - 1966 (BBC) (CBS)

In 1966 (the final year of the show's run) the theme peaked at #3 in the Top 40 charts. Born John Ramistella (What? did you think Rivers was his real name?), Rivers received his stage name from Alan Freed in 1958. With 17 Top Forty hits to his name, he was one of the most successful artists of the 1960s. His only number one hit was Poor Side of Town in 1966.

This was the theme for just the American broadcast of the show.

There’s a man who leads a life of danger.
To everyone he meets he stays a stranger
With every move he makes, another chance he takes.
Odds are he won’t live to see tomorrow.

Secret Agent Man.  Secret Agent Man.
They’ve given you a number and taken away your name.

Beware of pretty faces that you find.
A pretty face may hide an evil mind.
Ooh be careful what you say, or you give yourself away.
Odds are you won’t live to see tomorrow.

Secret Agent Man.  Secret Agent Man.
They’ve given you a number and taken away your name.

Swinging on the Riviera one day
Layin’ in a Bombay alley the next.
Oh don’t let the wrong word slip, while kissin persuasive lips.
Odds are you won’t live to see tomorrow.

Secret Agent Man.  Secret Agent Man.
They’ve given you a number, and taken away your name.

Thanks goes to Stuart for the help.

The first season of Danger Man (U.K.) began with the following dialogue:

"Every government has its secret service branch. America, CIA, France, Deuxieme Bureau, England, M.I.5, NATO also has its own. A messy job? Well That's when they usually call on me, or someone like me. Oh yes, my name is Drake, John Drake"

Spoken by Patrick McGoohan
