Space Patrol began life as a 15 minute program on a Los Angeles TV station (KECA) in 1950. It was aired five days a week through 1953. Of course, these shows were live and the station produced about 800 episodes. The show was picked up by ABC in 1950 and ran nationally until 1955. There were 210 30 minute episodes produced. It also ran in syndication from 1957 to 1959, using kinescopes. The cast not only produced five 15 minute shows a week and one 30 minute show a week, but also did a 30 minute weekly show broadcast on the ABC radio network from 1950 through 1955.

Ed Kemmer, who played the lead role, passed away in November 2004.
