WKRP in Cincinnati

WKRP in Cincinnati (1991)

Original Air Dates: 1978 - 1982 (CBS)

Original Air Dates: 1991 - 1992 (syndicated)

Opening song by Tom Wells & Hugh Wilson.  Sung by Steve Carlisle

Closing song by Tom Wells.  Sung by Jimmy Ellis

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio

The theme starts with a mixture of quotes as if someone is turning the dial of a radio looking something good to listen to.

Spoken: "Weather today in the greater Cincinnati area . ."
Sung: ". . . and haunt you so badly.  I could . . ."
Spoken: ". . . they're solid plastic so don't settle for imitation . . ."
Spoken: ". . . but the senator, while insisting he was not intoxicated, could not explain his nudity."

Baby, if you’ve ever wondered,
Wondered whatever became of me,
I’m living on the air in Cincinnati, Cincinnati, WKRP.

Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,
Town to town and up and down the dial
Maybe you and me were never meant to be,
But baby think of me once in awhile.
I’m at WKRP in Cincinnati.

Both the original series and the unsuccessful new series used the same music and lyrics. The new show re-recorded the song in a slightly different style.

There are no lyrics to the closing song. It is a series of nonsense words and was meant to be a bit of a joke and a tip of the hat to all of the misunderstood rock lyrics.
