FLORIDA 1578

This map shows Florida, the Atlantic coastline of much of eastern North America, the Gulf coast of Mexico, Central America, South America and many of the Caribbean Islands. Names on the map are Florida, Panama, Cuba, Spagnola (Hispanola) and La Belmudo (Bermuda). The limit of this map is clearly only its coastline as it was drawn early on in the Spanish exploration of the New World and what was called New Spain (Niova Spagna).

At this point, Florida was a territory of the Kingdom of Spain. Spain gave Florida to the United States in 1821.
