Orange County 1874 |
|
|
This is a map from 1874. It shows Orlando as well as Ft. Lane, Ft. Christmas and Ft. McNeil (spelled McNiel) on the map. It is also one of the earliest maps to show main roads through Orange County. At this time there were passenger and freight wagons that regularly traveled from Sanford on the south shore of Lake Monroe, the closest port for steamboats to the interior, to Orlando and on south. It would be 6 more years before the first rail line would connect Orlando to Sanford and then the rest of the U.S.
